Lilith’s Brood (Xenogenesis trilogy)

Overview

• Work_type:: character-focused SF about post-apocalyptic recovery and hybridization
• Setting:: Post-nuclear Earth and later off-world environments with the Oankali
• Scale:: Interplanetary/local stellar neighborhood

Trans-human form

• Transhuman_type:: bio-enhanced
• Mechanism:: Deep genetic integration between humans and Oankali; engineered hybrids with new capabilities
• Degree_of_change:: Extreme; “humans” become a new hybrid species with alien senses and biology

Survival logic

• Survival_strategy:: Abandon strict human purity in favor of a more adaptable hybrid lineage
• Key_technologies:: Organic biotech, living ships, direct genetic manipulation by alien partners
• Main_constraints_addressed:: Species-level extinction risk, limited genetic toolkit, environmental fragility

View on baseline humanity

• View_on_baseline:: replacement
• Attitude:: Baseline humanity is unsustainable; survival requires transformation that many characters perceive as loss
• Identity_question:: Central tension is whether hybrids are still “human” and who has the right to decide

Notes

• Themes:: Consent, power, survival vs. identity, colonial and reproductive politics
• Open_questions:: Is survival as something new better than extinction as humans?
