Week 7 ยท Infographics

Infographics โ€” a topic lecture between Projects 2 and 3. No graded exercise.

In class

How to animate data and infographics for motion graphics: building bar, line and pie charts with shape layers, Trim Paths and scale; animated counters (a text layer's Source Text driven by a slider or a simple expression); pictograms and iconography; and the design principles that keep data legible โ€” clear hierarchy, honest scale, restrained color, and pacing that lets a viewer read each figure.

Why it's here

Infographic and data-driven motion is some of the most common paid work in this field. It sits between Projects 2 and 3 because it builds directly on the shape, text and color skills you just used, and it previews the compositing and track-matte moves coming up in Project 3.

Homework this week

No graded exercise. Optionally sketch an infographic concept and gather Project 3 (composite) assets.

Infographics build on skills you already have โ€” see the Track Mattes and Text Animation sections of the Tutorial Links page for the relevant shape, trim-path and counter techniques.

Key terms: see the Vocabulary page.
